Have you booked your plane ticket and reserved your Airbnb? Are you now ready to start figuring out your Cuba packing list? Packing for any trip is no walk in the park. It’s hard to know exactly what to bring with you without knowing exactly what you will be doing each day or knowing what the weather will choose to do while you’re there.
From experience, my best advice is to do as much research as possible ahead of time. Traveling to Cuba requires a good amount of planning. Creating an itinerary will help to give you an idea of the activities you’ll be doing and what kind of clothes and other items are best to bring with you. Be sure to check out your weather apps as your trip gets closer. This will at least give you a good idea of what you can expect. Honestly, doing the extra footwork from the beginning is gonna be the best way to avoid getting caught off-guard and without the essentials.
While I can’t tell you exactly what you will need, I can tell you what I brought and what I didn’t, but wish I had. Hopefully this post will help to give you an idea of what your Cuba packing list should look like.
These are the items I brought with me
All-in-all, I think I did a pretty great job with my Cuba packing list. I had just about all the essentials and didn’t go without clothes…so that’s a plus!
As you can see above, I packed according to our itinerary. I knew we had planned to do an Airbnb Experiences photoshoot while we were there, as well as go on a countryside excursion. For the shoot, I made sure to bring a photoshoot appropriate dress and heels to match. For the excursion, I wanted to be comfortable, so I made sure to pack sneakers, an athletic top and leggings, and a baseball cap.
Each day and night required different things. During the day, we would do most of our walking, so being comfortable was important. We also knew we were going to be taking a lot of photos for the ‘gram as we went, so we tried to dress nicely. At night, we would go to different bars and restaurants, so it was important to me to have my makeup on hand and a pretty dress to throw on.
Now, these are the things I wish I had remembered to put on my Cuba packing list
Have you ever packed up your suitcase, taken off on your adventure, gotten a 1/4 of the way through your trip only to realize you hate 90% of the clothes you packed? Yeah, that happened to me on this adventure. As I said above, I did okay with my Cuba packing list in general, but I wasn’t a fan of my outfit choices. In the end though, I made do with what I had and had a great time regardless!
REMEMBER TO BRING SUNSCREEN. For real though, I forgot to pack some, so I spent a good chunk of time running from one plot of shade to the next. Don’t be me in this case.
Also, Cuba is a hot, sunny island country, so be sure to pack your sunnies. I’m surprised my face wasn’t sore from the amount of squinting I did all weekend.
I will say the one thing I packed that I really didn’t need was my bathing suit. We didn’t have time to get to any of the beaches, so it didn’t get used. I recommend packing one either way though because that’s one of those things you want to have with you in case plans end up allowing you to visit some water. Better safe than sorry tbh!
Everyone’s Cuba packing list is going to vary. Not everyone needs the same things or plans/packs the same way. This post was simply to share my packing experience for my first trip to Cuba. I hope you find it helpful in planning your visit!
