Thinking about cutting meat out of your diet? Then this post it for you! So many people are making this diet/lifestyle change and I say the more the merrier!
I, myself, have now been meat-free for 3 months. Which doesn’t seem like a long time in the grand scheme of things, but I had spent a good year or so really studying up on the topic. You know so I could understand why people do it, see others’ experiences with this lifestyle, learn different recipes, figure out how to be sure I’m making the change in a healthy way, and so on.
The #1 thing I learned in the past 3 months is that becoming a veg-head became a thousand times easier when it became important to me. After I became extremely invested in the why, it was so much easier.
Many people struggle with the transition, however. So in this post I’d like to share with you how you can become a vegetarian in 3 simple steps.
STEP 1: THE WHY
You’ll need to determine why you’re making this lifestyle change. For me, my reasons are mostly because of the ethics/animal rights issues, but it’s also a huge plus that I’m able to make a positive contribution to environmental conservation and live in a healthier way at the same time. Win-Win-Win.
STEP 2: THE WHEN
You’ll want to choose when you are going to officially stop eating meat. For some people, it needs to be a gradual reduction. They may choose one or two days a week to cut it out, then slowly make it three days, four days, five days…you get the picture. Others stop cold-tofurkey (see what I did there?)
In the beginning, I had decided that I wanted to “test out” being a vegetarian before I fully committed because I had a fear that I wouldn’t follow through with it. Like I said though, once it was a priority in my mind it was easy to stick to. I gave myself two weeks to see what it was like, but after I started I never looked back.
TIP: Other terms to research that may peak your interest are “Pescetarian,” “Flexitarian,” and “Vegan.”
STEP 3: THE MINDSET
The last step, but the most important, is that you’ll need to come to an understanding that you are making this change for yourself. You are going to encounter a lot of neigh-sayers and you will find yourself in some pretty awkward situations. Just know that you don’t need to explain yourself or defend your reasoning.
With some Negative Nellies out there it’ll just be an uphill battle and ultimately a waste of your time/energy. Please don’t do that to yourself. This should be a fun and uplifting experience so put your h8r shades on and block out the noise.
Honestly, the fact that you’re learning about vegetarianism now is progress in itself. You’ll get there. Be patient and don’t be so hard on yourself.
I wish you the best of luck with your veg-ourney…happy learning!
